When Robert Parker anointed the Wild Duck Creek “Duck Muck” 1997 with an unheard of 99 points, this previously unheralded Heathcote producer sprang to prominence on the world wine scene. “Duck Muck” is now one of the worlds most sought after cult wines, and Wild Duck Creek Estate has moved on from that initial notoriety to hold a place as one of Australia’s most iconic small volume producers.
These are artisanal , hand crafted wines, made from very low yielding vines. They are also unashamedly full bodied, yet with a depth of flavour and complexity that is a mark of all
great wines. The harsh quartz/shale composition soils provide a naturally low yielding environment, and consequently the average yields at Wild Duck Creek Estate are just over two tonnes per acre.
The Heathcote region has one of the largest diurnal temperature fluctuations in the wine growing world, enabling them to make powerful wines with high levels of natural acidity that aid in lending
such wines great ageability.
