Kym Teusner is one of the new breed of second and third generation Barossa Valley winemakers making a big impact in Australia. Having worked at various wineries after graduating from university in 2001, Kym became aware that there were a number of producers in the Barossa who were being severely underpaid for the quality of their old vine fruit. Many were considering uprooting their vineyards until Kym made them offers for their grapes that made the continued operation viable. Consequently, he was able to secure contracts on many outstanding regional vineyards whose vine age ranged from 45 to 90 years of age.
The first Teusner releases (from the outstanding 2002 vintage) were enthusiastically received by the public and press alike. In 2003, production rose to meet demand but still failed
to anticipate the surge in interest, with the vintage now being sold out. The first wines from the 2004 vintage are about to be released, with production now up to 8000 cases in total. Teusner
is without question one of the most exciting emerging brands of the Australian wine industry.
